The Station Inn

Under RenovationContact Us
Hi folks

The Station Inn, (previously known as The Goldmine) is currently undergoing refurbishment. We'll try to update this site as often as possible to let everyone know how things are progressing, but as most of you already know the pub has been closed for some time so we've got our work cut out for us.

Anyone wishing to get in touch, please feel free to use the contact us section.

Best Regards (hopefully see you soon)

Kris and Roger

4th February.

Hi everyone,
We have had a fun couple of weeks, the original hardwood floor that we intended to re-stain and re-polish had lifted in a few places, when we took a closer look we discovered the nice solid wood floor that had been fitted a couple of years ago had been fixed down on a mini lake of adhesive, as the wood started to swell the adhesive would not allow the hardwood planks to spread out or float across the floor, the only direction the wood could go was up. As the floor lifted in various areas the adhesive was so strong (and plentiful) that it cracked and lifted the Rock Asphalt membrane that sits on the cast concrete floor.

Unfortunately the only option was to dig the whole floor out and scrap it, so as I said it’s been a fun couple of weeks. Anyhow the new floors are almost in, the alterations to the lighting system have been completed and the re-decoration is well on the way. The new bar and fittings should be arriving the week commencing the 11th February. Part of the new cellar equipment has arrived, the rest should arrive about the same time as the bar (hopefully). The new signs have been ordered but we are awaiting the suppliers to come back with a delivery date. We will post more info as and when we get it, thanks for looking and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Kind regards
Roger & Kris

Hi folks,

The new cast iron fireplace arrived at the end of last week, it's a late 19th century reproduction similar to what would have been fitted when the Station was originally built.
The new bar has arrived and should be in position by late Wednesday or Thursday morning after which the installation of the fixed seating will begin.
With the weather being a little milder in the day we have been able to start work on the exterior, the front has been power washed and remedial work is being carried out on various sections of the rendered facia prior to painting, we had originally delayed the external works until the spring but if the weather remains kind we will proceed as far as possible. The material for the soft furnishings and curtains has also landed, and as I type, the other half has got sparks flying from her sewing machine(together with the odd expletive)I never knew curtains had so many names.

Cheers, and thanks for looking

Hi everybody

After installing the new fireplace we decided to give it a test run, a quick delve about for suitable logs and off we go, great, it throws out loads of heat, but what’s that noise, ah the fire alarm, (whoops), after a rather frantic investigation we discovered a couple of loose bricks in the loft had allowed the smoke to escape and this had triggered the upstairs smoke detectors (at least we know they work). A nifty bit of trowel work later and we can now toast out toes without that awful wailing noise (unless Kris gets his toes to close).
The new bar is fitted and looks terrific, in fact every time Kris walks past it he feels compelled to stroke it (it’s really starting to worry me a little) still each to his own, the fixed seating is complete and the other half is on her last pair of curtains (I won’t go into the curtain thing I can’t afford a divorce right now). The new items for the revamp of the ladies toilets should be here in the next couple of days together with the last of the new cellar equipment so we should soon be in a position to work out an actual opening date, speak to you all soon

Cheers
Roger & Kris

Wednesday 5th March
Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay in the updates but we have had to address a few more problems, early mornings and late nights tend to cramp the flow.
The curtains are up and the finishing touches to the ladies toilets should be carried out over the next couple of days, the new carpets for the front and rear lounge have been fitted together with the new coverings for the two main entrances. The cellar is now complete and ready to go and the awning has arrived for outside incineration area.
Unless we are struck by a major catastrophe we intend to open on Thursday the 13th March, its 2 weeks later than our original target but some things (and people) can’t be rushed, we will verify this date early next week.
Thanks for looking
See you all soon

Roger & Kris

Tuesday 11th March

Hello again,

Well we are still hitting the odd snag here and there but as they say, “the course of true love never runs smooth”. We have now been informed that the new swinging and fixed Station signs will not arrive until next week but we have decided to continue with the opening on Thursday night (the 13th), we have had a temporary sign made to display until the real thing arrives, any other teething problems will just have to be worked through as the arise on the day.

Thanks again for looking
Cheers

Roger & Kris.

14th April
Hi (at last)
Sorry for the long delay in info, we finally got moved into the pub but the internet hook up was delayed by 3 weeks due to a technical hitch at BT’s end, but now, we are back,
The opening went great and since then we are seeing a slow but steady increase in trade, the pub was closed for a year before we started on it so it will take a while for people to get used to the fact that it is open again.
The main signs (large one for the gable end and the front swinging sign) still haven’t arrived, these are now over a month overdue, we have received absolute pain of death promises for the manufacturer they will be here this week, if not Kris wants to drive down there next week and re-enact one of the scenes from the Godfather (I do hope it doesn’t come to that)
The letters for the name above the door did arrive and we had a temporary banner made to hang on the side gable wall to convince anyone passing by that we are actually open.
We have had a good and varied range of cask ales (30 plus) over the past few weeks across the 8 pumps, we are now concentrating on the kitchen area, the cooking range has arrived and finally working (yippee we had a full roast dinner after 6 weeks of microwave meals and sandwiches) once we get the rest of the kitchen equipment installed we will be ready to start offering food, we’re off to continue scrubbing kitchen walls and floors so speak to you soon, and thanks for looking.

Cheers
Roger & Kris

15th May
Hi
We have finally hacked our way through the jungle at the side of the pub and we found A GARDEN (cool), after several attacks with the mower and the removal of 36 bin bags of cuttings and strange plants with no name, it was fit to use. We installed some garden furniture and Voila a beer garden (there’s just no end to our new found talents), it’s a real sun trap, so for the last week or so it’s been getting quite a bit of use.

The kitchen rebuild is coming along and we continue to increase our stock range, we now have a good range of bottled continental beers, a selection of ciders, Perry’s and continental draught lagers, over 20 single malts and the 8 rotating hand pulls.

Hope to see you all soon

Best regards
Roger & Kris

Hi everybody,
We finally got the kitchen installed and working in time for father’s day and it’s been all hands to the pumps this past few weeks to get the food side up and running smoothly, haven’t even had time to do any web updates.
We are now open Sunday afternoon for traditional Sunday lunches, a choice of roasts with all the trimmings supported by a selection of starters, and for those with any room left, a range of hot and cold sweets.
The evening menu together with a changing specials board is available Tuesday to Friday 17.00 to 20.00 hrs. and Saturday 17.00 to 19.30 hrs. Light bites/sandwiches are available Saturday lunch time.
The pub opening hours are
Monday to Friday 17.00 to 23.30 hrs.
Saturday 12.00 to 14.00 - 17.00 to 23.30 hrs.
Sunday 12.00 to 23.30 hrs.
In a few weeks we should have completed phase two of the ongoing renovation, after which we intend to offer a lunch time menu throughout the week including O.A.P. and group specials

cheers
Roger & Kris
